A true Bay Area local, Breathe California Golden Gate Board Member, Alex Ding, MD, MS, was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. After completing his undergraduate and graduate training at UC Berkeley, he attended medical school at UCSF. Always interested in tobacco cessation, he completed his undergraduate thesis on “The Price Elasticity of Cigarette Demand in Youth: Implications for Public Policy” and went on to work with the World Health Organization’s global tobacco cessation initiative.
Dr. Ding is super human, delicately managing to successfully balance many prestigious appointments. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association and serves on several Councils of the California Medical Association. Additionally, Dr. Ding is a Partner at California Advanced Imaging, has served on over 25 professional committees, is on clinical faculty at UCSF, and serves as the Vice Chief of Staff at the San Mateo Medical Center, all while serving his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Reserve.
Dr. Ding has served on Breathe California’s Board of Directors for three years and joined because, “I saw it as a great opportunity to offer my insights, work in something I care deeply about, and be able to drill down to doing this meaningful work at a very personal and local level.” When he isn’t working, you might find him traveling the world with his wife and two sons.
