On July 7, 2017, Mayor Ed Lee signed into law an ordinance to end the sale of all flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes. This follows the San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ unanimous final approval on June 27, 2017.
Breathe California would like to express gratitude to Supervisor Malia Cohen for introducing this forward-thinking ordinance; to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for standing up for the health of San Franciscans; to Mayor Ed Lee for expressing his early support and for signing the ordinance into law; and to the many community youth-serving and health-focused organizations that have worked in tandem with Breathe California on this issue.
We also want especially to thank our Project E-NUFF advocates who have been working on the issue of flavored tobacco for the last 2 1/2 years!
This ordinance will save lives, protect youth health, save money in the city by reducing tobacco-related health costs, and stand up for social justice.
Send online “Thank You” letters to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and Mayor Ed Lee. It’s a quick and easy way to express gratitude for their concern with the safety of San Francisco’s youth and the health of all San Franciscans.
