San Francisco County currently ranks 22nd out of the 58 California counties in overall health,1 and as a major metropolitan city, San Francisco has excellent air quality.2 San Francisco meets the Environmental Protection Agency’s national air quality standards for carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, ozone, particulate matter, and lead.3 San Francisco residents have a lower rate of premature death than the state of California; in fact San Francisco is in the 90th percentile for that measure.4 However, Black/African-American communities experience nearly triple the rate of premature death compared to San Francisco residents.5 Read More
