May 2nd is World Asthma Day (WAD) and Breathe California Golden Gate celebrated on May 3rd at an event held at Skyline College, San Bruno. The All About Asthma program’s MariaElena Alioto, AE-C coordinated with Skyline College’s Respiratory Therapy Program students to help educate their peers about asthma and the dangers of e-cigarettes. Many Skyline students were surprised to learn that they – along with even younger children and teens – are the prime targets of the tobacco industry’s efforts to get a new generation addicted to their products.
Breathe California also shared the exciting news of a recent groundbreaking ordinance proposed to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products, including menthol, in San Francisco. Breathe California has been working on the issue of flavored tobacco for over two years through its Project E-NUFF Program.
Featured in the group photo are Professor Brian Daniel, RRT, RCP, Clinical Education Director of Skyline’s Respiratory Therapy Program, and MariaElena Alioto, AE-C, of Breathe California Golden Gate’s All About Asthma Program (Back Row, 5th and 6th from the left).
Thanks to Audrey Abadilla, Youth Programming Coordinator, for taking the photo.
